Rupa Valley – Spiti Valley Trek (7 Days / 6 Nights)
Embark on a thrilling adventure through the Rupa Valley to Spiti Valley, a challenging yet awe-inspiring trek that takes you through picturesque villages, high-altitude meadows, and the breathtaking Manirang Pass. Perfect for seasoned trekkers and nature enthusiasts, this 7-8 day trek offers a journey through the untouched landscapes of Himachal Pradesh.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Shi Asu (Base Camp)
Arrive at Shi Asu (31°43'N, 78°32'E), located on the historic Hindustan–Tibet Road. Shi Asu is reachable by bus from Kalpa, a picturesque town in Kinnaur.
Explore the local village, enjoy the apricot orchards, and settle into the accommodation.
Overnight stay at the Shi Asu PWD rest house or campsite.
Day 2: Shi Asu to Sangnam (9 km Trek)
Start your trek with a 9 km gradual climb towards Sangnam, a large village known for its temple and local shops.
Enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding mountains as you trek through orchards and traditional Kinnauri villages.
Overnight stay in Sangnam.
Day 3: Sangnam to Ropa Village (6 km Trek)
After breakfast, continue the trek for another 6 km to reach Ropa Village (2925 m), the last village on this trekking route.
Explore the village and stock up on essential provisions and kerosene oil.
Overnight stay at a homestay or camp in Ropa.
Day 4: Ropa to Rangbar Camping Ground (14 km Trek)
Start early and follow the trail along the Ropa Gad. Cross a stream before arriving at the Rangbar Camping Ground (14 km from Ropa).
The trail is surrounded by the majestic mountains, providing breathtaking views as you ascend.
Overnight stay at the Rangbar campsite.
Day 5: Rangbar to Panktil (4 km Trek)
Begin a stiff 4 km climb to reach Panktil (4010 m), a high-altitude point overlooking the confluence of the Ropa Gad and Chuktanjan Gad.
Enjoy stunning views of the valleys and peaks from this vantage point. Explore the shepherds’ huts and interact with the local herders.
Overnight stay at the Panktil campsite.
Day 6: Panktil to Sumdo Thatch to Pamchung (12 km Trek)
Follow the shepherd’s track northwards and trek along the Ropa Gad to reach Sumdo Thatch (3660 m), a beautiful meadow with views of the Manirang Peak (6593 m) and Singikang.
Continue on a steep climb to Pamchung Camping Ground (3960 m), a traditional camping site for shepherds.
Overnight stay at Pamchung in tents.
Day 7: Pamchung to Rankali to Manirang Pass to Sapona (Spiti Valley)
This will be the most challenging day of the trek. Begin with a 4 km steep ascent to reach Rankali (4420 m) at the foot of the Manirang Pass (5600 m).
The long, gradual climb to the Manirang Pass takes about 8 hours, offering spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.
From the pass, descend steeply to Sapona in Spiti Valley, a remote region of stark beauty.
Overnight stay at a camp in Sapona.
Day 8: Sapona to Mane Village to Main Road (Spiti River)
On the final day, trek through Mane Village, located on the right bank of the Spiti River. Soak in the serene atmosphere of Spiti’s barren landscapes and ancient villages.
Cross the Spiti River over a bridge between Sichling and Puh, where the trek meets the main road leading to Manali or Shimla.
Take a bus for your onward journey, either to Manali over the Kunzam and Rohtang Passes, or towards Shimla via Wangtu and Rampur.
